Hey Bryan - thanks for reading. Yeah, that's a challenge I have too - there aren't a ton around KC. However, I was doing a Kansas City SCCA road rally a couple weeks ago and they were on some incredible roads north of Oak Grove, MO and also north of LeCompton/Lawrence. You've got to really get out of town though to find good roads that aren't swamped with cops.

One good one that's closer to town is Hwy. 5 between Leavenworth and I-435 - lots of fun twisties and never seen a cop on it. However, it's also pretty narrow and it's easy to get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle for the entire stretch.

The best place of all for testing out cars like ours is a track day out at Heartland Park in Topeka!

Just picked up a 2009 Mustang GT a few months back and also in love with it. Do you know any decent places around the KC area where one can go fast without much traffic/cops ? I'm thinking some desolate country highways/back roads , but not sure where.

Mike, thanks for the response. This post is from 2+ years ago and it was about my ten favorite cars, not the fastest for the money. I know and appreciate STis and Evos but they are just not my thing.

The fact that an STI or EVO is not on this list is ridiculous. This should be renamed, "My Favorite Cars Under 40k." A ford fusion? With ECOBoost they are quick, but they are cheap for a reason, terrible handling (in a sporting sense) and not an incredible amount of power.

For 35k you can get an STI, put the other 5k into it and it could dust cars well into 50-60k range. I'm no fanboy, I love evo's and STI's and to think that a car, for under 40k can produce 300hp and 300 ft/lb of torque and give you performance suspension, 4 piston brembo brakes and turbo, that's amazing.

So you can go ahead praise your BMW 328i, but any true enthusiast knows that if you slap a Hyundai badge on that same exact car, it wouldn't get any praise at all. The only BMW worth buying is the M3

Ha - Doug, I liked it a lot. It was fun to read and really be able to imagine everything happening in the Kansas City I know well, even if the restaurant's location wasn't real. Definitely one I've recommended to others and will continue to do so.

How'd you find this post?
